How to do physical therapy when muscles are inflamed. Muscle inflammation occurs due to repeated muscle use over an extended period, such as prolonged computer use or daily sports activities. When muscles are continuously used, they can become tense and form inflamed knots, referred to as trigger points. These trigger points cause chronic muscle pain.
Symptoms of muscle inflammation:
- Deep, persistent muscle pain in a specific area of the body, which may occur constantly or during physical activities.
- Severity of pain can range from mild discomfort and annoyance to severe pain that limits movement.
- May experience tenderness and numbness.
- Abnormalities in muscle and body structure, such as misalignment of the neck, uneven shoulder height, unequal leg lengths, and muscle imbalances can lead to muscle inflammation.
- Two main types of muscle inflammation: Myofascial pain syndrome and Myositis.
Myofascial pain syndrome: This is a condition commonly experienced by many individuals. It causes pain in areas like the neck, shoulders, lower back, arms, and legs due to sports activities or various physical activities. This pain is long-lasting and persistent. Trigger points in these muscles may cause pain to radiate to other areas.
Myositis: Myositis is inflammation that affects the muscles and muscle fibers, often resulting from weakened or fatigued muscles after prolonged standing or walking. It can cause short-term or chronic muscle pain. Causes may include infections, autoimmune disorders, or medication side effects.
In summary, muscle inflammation can be categorized into two types, each with distinct symptoms and causes. To alleviate the pain and promote healing, physical therapy is a recommended treatment option.
